Yesterday the 2nd vice president HE Joseph Butore received in audience the UN configuration commission president for consolidation of peace in Burundi, Jurg Lauber. Jurg Lauber explained that he brought a message of support to Burundi from his team as Burundi recently revealed its National Development Plan. On the other side, the 2nd vice president explained the preparations of the 2020 elections and asked for support in speaking the facts and truth about Burundi, the election process and the situation in Burundi.
Ambassador Jurg Lauber explained that the talks they had included the socio-economic sector as Burundi recently presented its national development plan.
He explained that he brings a message from the part of the members of the Configuration Commission to support and show interests in discussions with the Burundian government on the implementation of the National Plan, Technical modalities, and how one can support this implementation.
He thanked and appreciated the warm welcome that the 2nd vice president always offers whenever he visits Burundi.
The spokesperson of the 2nd vice president informed journalists that during the meeting the 2nd vice president explained to him that the activities for the 2020 elections are going well, with the new constitution and a new independent electoral commision and that other steps are being followed carefully.
On the other part, the 2nd vice president of Burundi explained that Burundi calls the international community to support Burundi by talking about the truth and facts about the ongoing process of the preparation of the 2020 elections, whether in the elections preparations period, the elections period and post-electoral period.
In addition, he asked the president of the configuration to continue to show support to the Burundian ambassador to the UN so that other countries that misinterpret the situation in Burundi can know the steps that Burundi has accomplished.
Lastly, the second vice president called his host to visit Burundi often when needed to contribute on speaking the real image of Burundi.
