As humans, we all have our fears and flaws. However, we need to be aware of them for us to be the best of ourselves. You have to know where you fall for you to exercise yourself well, just as a student has to read where he/she doesn’t understand well for her to be well prepared.


Self-Confidence is a person’s own judgment on his/her ability and power. However, one builds their self-confidence through experiences and backgrounds. This helps us have the hope, strength, and belief that we are able to accomplish what we wish to in the future.

There are many habits, actions, and decisions that we make due to unseen reasons, and one of the main reasons is self-confidence. For this reason, I am going to be sharing 5 signs to know that you need to build your self-confidence to be the best of you.



Procrastination is the avoidance of doing a task that needs to be accomplished. This comes in the first sign that you should consider as a factor that you need to build your self-confidence. There are many times that we do not do what we have to do, because of the fears in our selves.

One of the questions that come to our minds when we are in the dilemma is should I do it now? Or later? Is it possible to do it now? Or later ill be more ready? We observe this in times of exams in class, many times, personally however much I am confident that I have studied well when the exam day is near I start questioning my ability to do the exam. However, this is something that shouldn’t be in our lives if we want to accomplish things at the right time. When you have a task be prepared and don’t let fear tackle your strengths when its time to act. Be confident that you are able.


2. Fear of change

The fear of change is another sign that you need to build your self-confidence, as a young person, the change in economic life, nature and place can be something destabilizing our self-competence and belief. We often fear that what we wish to accomplish may not pass if something external changes, well not denying the fact that some external changes may be beyond our control but some changes should be taken as opportunities for us to implement new strategies, plans, and innovations.  In times of change we shouldn’t look for the negative things, yes they may be there, but what about the good things you can invent in the change?


3. Fear of being what others or your friends may not like.

Yes, friends are one of the greatest gifts we have in life, but sometimes we need to be ourselves and follow what truly beats in our hearts. Not everyone understands your plan not even all your friends, but this can be a tough time for great friends who find that they have different directions, it seems like the good or best friend to have is that who we are in the same things, doing the same activities but you can be best friends with someone doing totally different things.

A lot of Young people today face this challenge when it comes to taking the right decisions about what to really follow. Sometimes they think, what will my friends say? How will they take me if I say that I want this? But the truth is, yeah that is what you are and if its what you want, you need to follow and pursue it. Friends are good and they should even be great when they are encouraging you to follow what your heart wants. And sometimes we have to take different paths to do that.


4. Doubt

A big percentage of people from toddlers to adults doubt of what to do or what to chose for themselves due to a lot of reasons. We sometimes face questions where we are put down by the mental state of not knowing what to do. Self-confidence helps us to know that, what we chose may be right or wrong but we still have to make a choice. Doubt is also a strong factor in procrastination because if you don’t know what to chose, many people decide to postpone it. Therefore to build self-confidence you need to tackle the doubt that comes in your decision-making process. As a young professional, its good to doubt but you need to make a choice in order to move on. Having the ability to choose one thing and leave other things is a sign of self-confidence.  


5. Glossophobia

Glossophobia is the fear of public speaking also known as speech anxiety. While many people have this fear, not only young but also old people, this is one factor of little self-confidence.

Many people are reported to have this fear only during a public speech, as a young professional who has the goals to lead others to a great change, you need to exercise yourself to be confident while speaking. Sometimes people fail to speak the intended message due to this fear, but with time, exercise and self-confidence people manage to stand in front of millions of people and share their opinions.


The signs here are a few of many things that show how we don’t believe in ourselves, but it is good to know where we fail for us to know how to strengthen our selves in that particular thing. If you found one, two or more signs in these stated above, you shouldn’t feel like you have been pointed out as a weak person, but take this time to change and build your confidence to speak well your thoughts, stand firm in your decisions, take responsibility, and know the time that all things should be done as a confident person.
