FIFA has announced its ultimate ‘Team of the Year’

The Team of The Year as voted by a carefully curated list of media, athletes, and EA SPORTS FIFA community members.

Fans of the football video game have been asked to vote for their favorite 11 players after 55 of the world’s top footballers were nominated, and here is the ultimate Team of FIFA 2018

Goalkeeper: David De Gea

The Manchester United and Spanish international is the highest rated keeper in the game, with a rating of 91 out of 100. Last season, he won the award for the best goalkeeper in the Premier League.

Right Back: Sergio Ramos

Sergio Ramos is never far from the headlines. Liverpool fans won’t like his inclusion in the Fifa team of the year. In the 2018 Champions League final he collided with Mo Salah, injuring Liverpool’s star man in the process. Real Madrid went on to lift the trophy for the third season in a row.

Left Back: Marcelo

It’s not a Fifa TOTY without Marcelo. He’s been voted as the best left-back for four years in a row. The Brazil international was part of the Champions League winning Real Madrid side last season.

Centre Back: Virgil Van Dijk

Virgil Van Dijk became the most expensive defender in history when he moved from Southampton to Liverpool for a reported fee of £75 million. He quickly lived up to his reputation and sizable fee by helping Liverpool to the Champions League final in 2018.

Centre Back: Raphaël Varane

It doesn’t get much better than Raphaël Varane’s 2018. The superstar defender won the Champions League with Real Madrid and World Cup with France.

Midfield: Kevin De Bruyne

Manchester City’s midfield general had a brilliant 2018, helping his side win the Premier League and his country, Belgium, to the World Cup semi-finals. Last season he won the first ever “Premier League: Playmaker of the season” award.

Midfield: Luka Modric

Luka Modric won the UEFA player of the year, FIFA player of the year AND Ballon d’Or best player award in 2018. He also helped his country, Croatia, reach the final of the 2018 World Cup. Not a bad year at all.

Midfield: N’Golo Kanté

He doesn’t always take the headlines but his record speaks for itself. The rapid rise of N’Golo Kante has seen him go from French third tier to World Cup winner in the space of five years. In the summer, he helped France win the 2018 World Cup and he was in the 2018 Fifa team of the year.

Striker: Lionel Messi

Is Messi the best of all time? The debate rages on. Last season Messi scored 51 times and assisted his teammates 26 times. His goals helped Barcelona win the league. Despite this, he only managed to finish 5th in the annual Ballon d’Or best player awards.

Striker: Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo’s £99 million moves from Real Madrid to Juventus came a bit out of the blue. He’d just helped Real Madrid win the Champions League in a season where he scored 44 times. Since moving, his goal-scoring form has continued. He has 15 goals already this season.

Striker: Kylian Mbappe

You’d think having a £166 million transfer fee over your head as a teenager would make you nervous. Not if you’re Kylian Mbappe. Since moving to Paris St Germain in 2017, the 20-year-old forward has gone from strength to strength winning a league title and helping France to the 2018 World Cup.

Is this the FIFA 19 Team of the Year XI that you had hoped for?
