Neymar bursts into tears after suffering foot injury during PSG Cup clash

Neymar left the pitch in tears after having suffered foot injury during PSG match against Stasbourg  (2-0) in Coup de France games.

Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar was in tears as he limped from the field with a foot injury during the second half of his side’s 2-0 Coupe de France victory against Strasbourg.

The Brazil star Neymar injured his right foot when Strasbourg midfielder Moataz Zemzemi attempted to tackle him three times before referee Johan Hamel awarded a free-kick.

Neymar was fouled three times in a few seconds by Moataz Zemzemi during PSG’s 2-0 Coupe de France win over Stasbourg.

Neymar left the pitch shortly after, to receive treatment and, though he came back on, appeared emotional as he made his way down the tunnel with Moussa Diaby replacing him in the 62nd minute.

“It’s Neymar’s style, but don’t come and complain when you get kicked,” said Strasbourg’s Anthony Goncalves.

“He is a great player, I respect him. He can enjoy himself but don’t come blubbering afterward.”

Speaking to Eurosport after the match, PSG boss Thomas Tuchel expressed his concern for the world’s most expensive footballer, saying: “No, I did not talk to Neymar because he’s in the hospital. Yes, I’m worried.

PSG said that Neymar had suffered a “reactivation of the lesion of the fifth right metatarsal”,

“Treatment would depend on how the injury heals in the next few days,” PSG added

The former Barcelona forward, who has scored 20 goals in all competitions so far this season for the Ligue 1 leaders, injured the same ankle last February and missed the rest of the season, only returning to fitness in time to play for Brazil at the World Cup.

“It’s always complicated. It’s the same foot and the same metatarsal [as the injury suffered in early 2018].”

Neymar’s injury further adds to PSG’s injury concerns ahead of their upcoming Champions League tie with Manchester United.

Meanwhile, PSG midfielder Marco Verratti is already doubtful for the first leg of their last-16 Champions League tie at Manchester United on 12 February after suffering an ankle injury during the 9-0 win over Guingamp on Saturday.

PSG are currently 13 points clear of Lille on top of the Ligue 1 table – and have two matches in hand against their closest rival.

They are next in action against Rennes on Sunday as they look to maintain their unbeaten league campaign thus far.
