Pierre Ndaye Mulamba: The 70-year-old former Leopards football striker from the DRC and AS Vita Club, Pierre Ndaye Mulamba aka Mutumbula, died Saturday (January 26th) in South Africa

Pierre Ndaye Mulamba had been undergoing medical care since September 2018.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Master Papy Niango Iziamay.

Pierre Ndaye Mulamba’s career

Pierre Ndaye Mulamba1 nicknamed Mutumbula was a Congolese international footballer (DRC), born November 4, 1948, in Luluabourg.

With 15-year-old Pierre, Mulamba was already a star in his region

He played his first match for the Kasai Renaissance at that age, he was integrated into this club by Belgian brothers, having sniffed the talent of this young leopard3.

His debut was a success,

Pierre left the Kasai Renaissance Club in 1972 and at the same time stopped working as a teacher in Luluabourg, preferring to play football.

He joins the ranks of AS Bantou, famous club of the city of Mbuji-Mayi. Already adored in his former club, Pierre Ndaye Mulamba becomes over time a national star.

In 1973, he got signed at Vita Club of Kinshasa, sealing his new status, that’s of a national star. He won the African Cup of Champions in November of the same year.

He is repeatedly selected by new coach Blagoja Vidini in 1974, in the African Cup of Nations games held in Egypt.

Mulamba holds the record of goals scored in finals African Cup of Nations with 9 goals in 6 matches at the CAN 1974 in Egypt. That year Zaire won its second CAN triumph in the final against Zambia.

He holds the continental record of goals scored in a single edition.

Pierre Ndaye Mulamba ends his career at Vita Kinshasa where he leads his team for the second time in the final of the African Champions League (lost by Vita Kinshasa in 1981).

Icon of Congolese and African football, he was decorated with the National Order of Leopards. He also received the Fifa Centennial Merit Medal.
