More than 24 billion Rwf is the planned budget to repair the various infrastructures that were damaged by heavy rains in this particular period in Rwanda, according to the Minister of Infrastructures, Claver Gatete.
“These various damaged infrastructures are those relating to energy, water, roads, housing and construction. An emergency budget is available to repair them. The roads are being repaired to withstand the next rainy seasons. Currently, the first five billion Rwandan francs are being spent as a basic necessities budget in order to repair the infrastructures that we need most, and also to support the households that are in risk areas, and we are to relocate, “he said.
He made the remarks during a press conference with the media as he announced the Government’s strategies to keep practicable the Kigali-Gatuna regional road, now closed, because it was cut off by landslides.
As IGIHE reports, the Ministry of Infrastructure (MININFRA) has assured road users that traffic flow for all vehicles on the Gatuna-Gicumbi-Kigali road will resume to normalcy on Monday next week.
In a press conference yesterday, the State Minister for Transport in MININFRA, Jean de Dieu Uwihanganye said that repairs are underway.
Kigali Today confirms that onn May 14, heavy downpour caused floods to wash away part of this road at Rwankonjo in Cyumba Sector, Gicumbi District which obliged the police to close it from heavy trucks. A team from the Ministry of Infrastructure led by Jean de Dieu Uwihanganye, State Minister in Charge of Transport drove to the area on Monday together with contractors to assess rehabilitation needs.
On top of an average 200 human loss, the heavy rains damaged 25 national roads and 13 bridges on national roads and 44 on district roads and 29 bridges.
