Amavubi, the National Team of Rwanda will play Somalia in the first and second round of the qualifiers of the 2020 Total African Nations Championship (CHAN) as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) confirmed the dates.
Rwanda who was drawn against Somalia in the Central-East Zone qualifiers will play the first leg of the first round on July 26-28, 2019 in Mogadishu while the return leg will be held in Kigali on August 2-4, 2019.
Should Amavubi Stars eliminate Somalia on aggregate, Masami’s charges will progress to the next face of the qualifiers where an arguably trickier assignment against either South Sudan or Uganda lies in wait.
The first leg of the second round will then be played in Kigali or Somalia on September 20-22 depending on which teams progresses to the second round then the return leg will be staged in either Kampala or Juba on October 18-20.
The eventual winner in the second round will automatically book a ticket to the 2020 Ethiopia CHAN finals tournament as representatives of the Central-Eastern Africa zone.
Vincent Mashami’s Amavubi will be looking to qualify for the continent’s second biggest football event for the fourth time – and a third time in a row –having participated at the 2011 edition in Sudan, the 2016 competition held in Rwanda and the 2018 finals tournament staged in Morocco.
