Senegal: The Teranga lions have confirmed world cup ticket

Senegal: Youssouph Dabo and his team confirmed to represent Senegal at their third appearance at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in May in Poland as they beat Ghana (2-0) on Wednesday.

The Teranga lions (Les Lions de la Teranga) on Wednesday in Maradi defeated the Black Starlets of Ghana 2-0 in their second match of the tournament and set to book Senegal a place in the last four and World Cup ticket

Senegal had in their opening match beaten Mali by the same margin and have now garnered six points in two matches. They lead Group B with 6 points with Ghana and Mali in the second and 3rd position respectively.

Youssouph Badji, The 18-year old who plays his club football with Casa Sports de Ziguinchor headed in his first goals after eleven as the young Lions took control of proceedings in Maradi.

Youssouph completed his double with a neat right-footed finish just inside the area from Lamine Danfa’s superb delivery on the stroke of halftime to hand his team an unassailable 2-0 advantage.

“It was very difficult against Ghana who are strong in midfield but we played to our instructions and we managed to win.”

“We have qualified but it doesn’t mean we will go into the game against Burkina Faso not wanting to win.”  Youssouph Dabo (Senegal Head Coach) commented.

“Our object was to qualify for the World Cup which has been achieved now we will take it game by game because now it’s a matter of winning or you’re out of the tournament.” He added

The defeat means Ghana has to avoid defeat against Mali on Saturday in Niamey to qualify for the semifinal and booking a place at the World Cup in Poland.

With one match left for all the competitors on Friday and Saturday respectively, Senegal already have a place in the semifinals and will finish with maximum nine points if they compound the woes of Burkina Faso who have no points in two matches. Senegal takes on Burkina Faso on Saturday while Ghana and Mali battle to the finish for the second semifinalists of the group.
