The United Nations Fund for Population (UNFPA), granted Thursday, December 27, 2018, to the Ministry of Education, Technical and Vocational Training, a donation of articles for young people that will be distributed to equip spaces for young people in some schools. This donation consists of a kit of 93 sanitary packages (cotex), 312 sports jerseys and 24 footballs.
Assistance to support the development, peace, and guidance of young people
The representative of UNFPA in Burundi, Mr. Richmond Tiemoko, said that this gesture, which comes within the framework of support to the Ministry of Education, is a cornerstone for the development, peace, and guidance of young people in general. It will also enable young people to get to know each other and to live their youth, to interact with each other in cultural and sports clubs and especially girls to live and stay in school during their menstruation.
For his part, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Hermenegilde Burikukiye thanked UNFPA for its support, while recalling that this gesture is part of other aid already offered, including ten computers, school furniture, and others. He also said that this help will allow young people to flourish morally, sportingly and intellectually.
UNFPA asked to stay close to the Government of Burundi
Mr. Burikukiye asked UNFPA to stay close to the Government of Burundi and to accompany it in the distribution of this kit, with a view to ensuring the non-misuse of its guidelines. He finally invited the other international organizations to follow the example of UNFPA, by contributing to the development of Burundian youth
